Alliance Theater (Photographed July 29, 2020)

The most wonderful part of the experience photographing the Alliance Theatre was the text message that I got from Company Manager Laura Thruston as I left the Woodruff Arts Center following the shoot: “Today was fun. I’m glad I made a new friend!”

ME TOO!

That sort says a lot when you consider just how amazingly beautiful the new interior space of the mainstage (designed by Trahan Architects) is.

“The Brand New Coca-Cola Stage at Alliance Theatre is a state-of-the-art proscenium theater offering significant enhancements for patrons including an intimate, comfortable, and sound sensitive environment.” — Alliance Theatre

Breathtaking doesn’t begin to describe the experience. Even in work lights, it is stunning.

The set is a Kat Conley design for the children’s show the “Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed: The Virtual Rock Experience” that was running in March when everything had to lockdown. In and of itself it is amazing, but the set becomes magical in the new theatre.

It is haunting, being in all these dark houses. It’s quiet—no coughs, or rustling of the playbills and there’s a loneliness that envelops you. But each and everyone is beautiful in its own way and each expresses uniquely the richness of #atlantatheatre.
